Sail from Mallaig to Inverie

Mallaig is a small fishing village at the end of the A830 road travelling from Fort William. There is a regular train and bus service from Fort William as well as the Jacobite Steam train that runs twice a day in the summer months.

All bus and rail time tables can be found in our Travel Links. There is plenty of free parking, shops, a swimming pool, restaurants, and a new marina.

You will find the Western Isles Ticket Office on the Old Pier just off the main street. The trip to Inverie takes about 30 – 45 minutes depending on which boat you catch. The first and last boats of the day tend to be on the faster boats, taking about 30 minutes.

The MV Western Isles is a traditional wooden passenger vessel with toilets and a bar on board. This a very special vessel that you can walk all around and fully enjoy the breathtaking scenery up the Loch. It does take a bit longer but the trip is well worthwhile.

All boats have toilets and drinks available on board. All sailings are weather dependent so please check our web site for any disruptions. A full refund will be made if your sailing is cancelled.

Provided there is space available, tickets can be purchased in cash on the boat. However we strongly advise pre-booking your sailings to avoid disappointment.

A return ticket costs £15 per adult, a single is £7.50. Children (5 – 15 years) travel half price and under five years travel for free as do dogs of all shapes and sizes.  Please note that each ticket will allow for 1 small piece of hand luggage (such as a handbag or laptop case) per person.  All other luggage such as suitcases, rucksacks and all groceries will be charged at £1 per item per sailing

Arrival for Sailing:

Customers arriving by car must arrive 30 minutes before scheduled sailing time so luggage can be unloaded and cars parked.

Customers arriving by train must arrive 10 minutes before scheduled sailing time.  In the event the train is late and we have been NOTIFIED by Scot Rail we can only hold the sailing for a maximum of 5 minutes.

Late arrivals may be denied boarding if loading and parking will delay the sailing.
